Congratulations to Australia for another successful Asbestos Awareness Week!

Last week, I had the privilege of delivering the keynote address at the Australian Asbestos Network’s Symposium in Perth, Western Australia – from ADAO’s Los Angeles office!

Thanks to the miracle of Skype, I spoke and shared presentation slides about – you guessed it! – using social media in the global asbestos struggle. The interactivity even included a live video Q&A at the end of the presentation. The dialogue continued via Facebook and Twitter, where we shared the “The Global Asbestos Struggle: Progress and Challenges” PowerPoint online.

It’s a challenge to keep up with rapid advances in technology, but it’s essential to apply all the resources we have to benefit victims of asbestos disease and continue to advocate for a ban. Technology allows us to be the global network we need to be and literally save lives by educating the public about how to prevent asbestos exposure.

We want to express our gratitude to the Australian Asbestos Network for inviting us to participate and for the opportunity to share our ADAO story.

Australia has proved to be a leader in protecting public health by banning asbestos. We will do our best to follow in your footsteps. As Lao-Tzu said, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”

In unity,

Linda
