Partners of Prevention

Since 2007, the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) and Independent Asbestos Training Providers (IATP) have been Partnering for Prevention with the vision of a world free from asbestos and asbestos disease.   We believe that strong international collaboration is the only way to achieve our goals. Thanks to technology, our families have grown. Over the years, the IATP community and the ADAO community have developed relationships through social media, sometimes without ever meeting face-to-face.  My online friendship with Christine Winter from IATP began through guest blogs and emails – before Facebook!  We finally embraced each other at joint meetings in the UK back in 2012.

In a few days, I will be going to Derby UK for IATP’s First Fundraising Event “Casino Royale. Be Shaken, Not Stirred!” to accept ADAO’s Global Impact Award and collaborate with others to advance educational campaigns to prevent asbestos exposure. Thanks to Barbara Minty McQueen, ADAO will donate an autographed copy of her book Steve McQueen: The Last Mile…Revisited to IATP’s fundraiser.  All proceeds from the event will go to Derbyshire Asbestos Support Team (DAST).

While in Derby, I will also meet Meso Warrior Mavis Nye in person for the first time and reconnect with past ADAO honoree Debbie Brewer, who will also be attending the event on January 26, 2013.   ADAO will be presenting Mavis Nye with the 2013 Alan Reinstein Award for her commitment to education, advocacy, and support to countless patients and families.

ADAO has the pleasure of welcoming Christine Winter back to the 2013 ADAO conference in Washington, D.C. where she will present “UK Ban Asbestos Efforts: Where Professionals and Patients Unite.”

I am honored to be a part of the IATP event which includes many of my online colleagues from around the world. On behalf of ADAO’s volunteers and supporters, I will gratefully receive the Global Impact Award.  It is through our solidarity and collaboration that our voices and actions bring us closer to ending asbestos-caused diseases.

Thank you, IATP, for honoring ADAO.  Together, change is possible.

In unity,

Linda
