March 3, 2013 “Shared Stories” Book Update

Thank you for the wonderful response we received to our upcoming “Shared Stories” book.  ADAO has a tiny staff operating out of a home office, so we ask for your patience as we work on this exciting collection.

If you sent us a story, here are a few things you need to know:

  1. If we have received your story, you will have already received an email acknowledging that we have it. We have emailed everyone whose story we received. If you didn’t get an email, your story will not be in the 2013 conference  book, but don’t worry, we will be adding to the 2013 version during the year.
  2. If your story has been published on our website as of today, it will be in the book.
  3. If your story was received by March 3, it will be published in the “Shared Stories” book. Stories received after March 3 will not be in the book, but will be added to our online collection.
  4. We will print enough copies of the book for people attending the Remembrance Brunch on Sunday, March 24 at the 9th Annual Asbestos Awareness Conference in Washington, D.C. and we will also post an online copy.
  5. If you missed the March 3rd deadline, we will add your additional stories and print a final 2013 version of the book. Watch for details this summer.

Lastly, in order to protect patients and families – all stories are copyright protected.

Linda

At ADAO, we understand the bravery and fortitude it takes to share your experience with asbestos disease.  Therefore, it is a tremendous honor when a person chooses to open their hearts and be a part of ADAO’s “Share Your Story” campaign.

Tragically, asbestos has impacted so many of us, whether it has been you or someone you love. By sharing your story, you help to build a community of solidarity and give strength to those who have suffered similar tragedies.  As we strive for a world free from asbestos disease, we can find strength in sharing our testaments and creating a community of support.

Although it may seem hard to find the right words, it is with your words that you can lend your support to those who are fighting asbestos diseases alongside you and also assure that those we have lost will always be remembered.

ADAO has already collected over fifty stories from patients, their spouses and their children.  Now, we are moving beyond our online stories to honor our community in a new way. ADAO is developing a book entitled “Shared Stories: How Asbestos Changed Our Lives” which we will be sharing at the upcoming “Unity and Remembrance Brunch” at the 9th Annual International Asbestos Awareness Conference  on March 24, 2013.

Read others’ shared stories and learn how you can participate today.  If you would like to “Share Your Story,” please complete the online form by March 1st to be included in our book. All previously published and submitted stories will be included. It would be our privilege to honor you or your loved one.

In unity,

Linda
