Heather’s Lung Leavin’ Day ( 2014)
On February 1, 2014, I had my airline ticket for Minnesota in hand, ready to represent ADAO at Heather von St. James’ 8th Annual Lung Leavin’ Day. Unfortunately the weather didn’t cooperate, but that didn’t spoil Heather’s day at all.
Mesothelioma patients are not the only people who have fears. We all do. On Lung Leavin’ Day, Mesothelioma Warriors and other joined Heather and wrote their fears on a plate which they threw into the bonfire, smashing it. Since I couldn’t be there, I used Heather’s interactive website where you could smash a plate virtually. Heather’s donations to Lung Leavin’ Day raised funds for MARF, IMP and ADAO. At our 2014 Asbestos Awareness Conference, she will be one of three Mesothelioma Warriors to receive the Alan Reinstein Award in honor of her commitment to asbestos education, advocacy and support to countless patients and families around the world. In addition to being an honoree, Heather will deliver Sunday, April 6th “Unity and Remembrance Brunch” Warrior keynote address.
