This morning ADAO received a tweet from New York-Presbyterian Hospital:

NY Med Tweet

NY MEDThe television show NY Med features real patients and real doctors. Tonight’s mesothelioma patient is architect Robert Campagna, suffering from a persistent cough, shortness of breath and fluid build-up in the lining of his lungs. This is not lung cancer. Mesothelioma is a fatal cancer caused by exposure to asbestos – still legal and lethal in the US. In just one example, a 2013 NIOSH study found that firefighters had a rate of mesothelioma two times greater than the rate in the US population as a whole.  Prevention is the only cure. Please take this opportunity to spread awareness about this disease that claims the lives of 30 Americans every day. At the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO), our hearts goes out to the Campagna family. We are deeply grateful to them for courageously sharing their story and want them to know that they are not alone.

We thank New York-Presbyterian for and @LungCancerFaces for letting us know. Follow the conversation at @nyphospital  @nymedabc @LungCancerFaces @linda_ADAO.

Together, we are making change happen.

Linda
