World Asbestos CongressThe Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) is pleased to support the Ahmed family’s World Asbestos Congress again. Last year’s 1st World Asbestos Congress was a huge success and the President Mamnoon Hussain of Pakistan stated:  “I … wish to congratulate Syed Haroon Ahmed, Syed Mezab Ahmed and the organizers of this conference for their efforts to raise greater awareness about asbestos and various health issues involved with its use. Scientific research has proved that asbestos is a human carcinogen and there is no safe level of asbestos exposure.”

The World Asbestos Congress sponsored by the Honorable Sardar Yasin Malik, will be on January 31 – February 1 at the Movenpick Hotel Karachi and February 1st at Pearl Continental Hotel Karachi. The conference will again focus on bringing asbestos awareness and political justice to Pakistan with the end goal being a lawful ban on asbestos. Yet, the meeting will also have a worldly presence with over 400 total guests attending of ranging nationalities including Pakistan, the UK, Australia, Japan, India, Russia and the United States. Guests also include a range of professions from diplomats, to lawyers, to politicians, medical experts, and journalists. Major speakers include Governor of Punjab Muhammad Sarwar (former British Member Parliament) and Mr. Ali Ahmed Kurd (Former President Supreme Court Bar). I am also pleased to be attending the event myself as Vice Chairperson of Managing Committee of World Asbestos Congress 2015!

Since 2007, Syed Haroon Ahmed, Mezab’s father, has been investigating the death of his brother, Syed Fareed Ahmed, who passed away from tongue cancer at age 55. Through the Ahmed’s research, they uncovered countless examples of dangerous asbestos exposure at the Dadex Eternit Limited Dadex factory where his brother worked in Karachi, Pakistan. His son, Syed Mezab Ahmed, has taken up his father’s work in seeking justice for his brother and fighting to ban asbestos. I encourage you to download The World Asbestos Congress 115 page “1st World Asbestos Congress souvenir program book”  features messages and letters from the President of Pakistan and many other dignitaries from Pakistan and abroad are featured along with a copy of the BAN Asbestos Pakistan Petition and the ADAO 10th International Conference Declaration.

In unity,

Linda
