Slide01Congratulations to the Ahmed family of Pakistan! In an effort to drive awareness of and push for a ban on asbestos in Pakistan, on January 31, 2015, they hosted the 2nd World Asbestos Congress. ADAO has had the pleasure of working with the Ahmed family for several years, last year presenting via Skype at the 1st World Congress. Over 100 delegates from several countries were in attendance, as asbestos prevention, education, and ban asbestos movement were discussed. It was an honor to be an international speaker and present “Global Asbestos Challenges and Progress in the 21st Century” at such a collaboration. In my presentation I covered the challenges, pitfalls, and problems that we are facing in the fight against asbestos while also discussing progress in the future.

ADAO applauds the Ahmed family and their newly founded Syed Fareed Ahmed Memorial Mesothelioma General Hospital Foundation Trust for recognizing the dangers of asbestos. The Ahmed family lost their beloved brother/uncle Syed Fareed Ahmed to asbestos-caused tongue cancer in 2007 at age 55. Rather than being paralyzed by their grief, the family has committed to seeking justice and advocacing on behalf of Syed by spreading awareness about asbestos in Pakistan in an effort to protect the country’s citizens from its deadly effects. ADAO has been inspired by this experience, at the resilience and uplifting spirit of this family. For more information, please check out our website, and don’t forget to join us at ADAO’s 11th Annual International Asbestos Awareness Conference April 17-19, 2015 in Washington, D.C.

In unity,
