On behalf of everyone at The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO), thank you to all those who participated in Global Asbestos Awareness Week (GAAW)! This year we saw our largest and most powerful asbestos awareness force ever comprised of health organizations, businesses, government health agencies, Mesothelioma Warriors, and interested persons all over the globe!
Through ADAO’s new “Hear Asbestos. Think Prevention.” Campaign, featuring essential asbestos prevention materials, coupled with your dedicated efforts, Global Asbestos Awareness Week truly set a new precedent in asbestos prevention. We saw everything from organizations retweeting important #GAAW educational information to their followers, invitations to feature ADAO guest blogs on others’ websites, and individuals re-purposing information into powerful social media posts and graphics in their own voice. Whether you’re a large organization or an interested individual, your collaborative action was the spark behind GAAW. Together we spread important information on 1) preventing asbestos exposure 2) what to do after exposure 3) educating the global public about how harmful asbestos really is.
Here are some highlights from Global Asbestos Awareness Week:
- ADAO’s GAAW tweets and partner-retweets garnered over 6 million impressions worldwide! #GAAW
- The Passing of the 11th Annual Asbestos Awareness Week Resolution dedicating April 1-7 as Global Asbestos Awareness Week
- Statement from Vice Admiral Vivek H. Murthy, U.S. Surgeon General, that reaffirms the dangers of asbestos
- Seven inspirational and educational Mesothelioma Warrior “Share Your Stories“
- Seven days of educational blogs featuring prominent international partners in prevention including the World Health Organization (WHO), British Lung Foundation, Environmental Working Group (EWG), Brazilian Ban-asbestos advocate – Fernanda Giannasi, and George Washington University Professor Celeste Monforton
Once again, thank you to everyone who contributed to this educational and inspirational week. Whether you were one of the main content contributors, shared a story, or even liked one of our Facebook posts, your support is crucial in spreading awareness. As a tribute of our appreciation ADAO will be thanking all of GAAW participants in our May eNewsletter. If you contributed please sign our Global Asbestos Awareness Week Supporters List so we can name you in our May eNewsletter! Also special thanks to Sarah McOnie and The McOnie Agency, public relations specialist, for their generously donated time and efforts spreading GAAW content to new international outlets!
Together change is possible.
