8th ADAO Congressional Staff Briefing: “Asbestos: Impact on Consumer Safety, Public Health, and Asbestos Victims’ Civil Rights (July 2015)

Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization Legislative Positions (June 2015)

Posted on June 22, 2015

2015 ADAO Briefing_edited-1On Wednesday, July 15, 2015 the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) will host our 8th Congressional Staff Briefing “Asbestos: Impact on Consumer Safety, Public Health, and Asbestos Victims’ Civil Rights” in Washington, D.C. In order to make this event a success and educate as many legislative decision-makers as possible, we need your help getting attendance.

Asbestos is responsible for 12,000 – 15,000 deaths each year in the USA, yet this killer chemical remains legal and lethal.  More importantly, there is legislation that will be voted on soon that will impact consumers’ safety, public health, and asbestos victims’ civil rights.

The seven bills being discussed are: four bills to reform the failed Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) of 1976, the so-called Furthering Asbestos Claim Transparency (FACT) Act, and the Reducing Exposure to Asbestos Database (READ) Act.  (For more information on ADAO’s Legislative Positions, click here.)  Sadly, four of these industry bills will horribly impact Americans forever.  ADAO Opposes:  “The Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act (S.697) , TSCA Modernization Act H.R. 2576 and TSCA Modernization Act” The Furthering Asbestos Claim Transparency (FACT) Act of 2015 (S. 357,  The Furthering Asbestos Claim Transparency (FACT) Act (H.R. 526)

Make Your Voice Heard.

We need your help! Senate and House of Representative Staffers handle many important issues for their bosses – our lawmakers – and our briefing will greatly increase their understanding of how these bills will impact Americans – today and forever in the future.  TAKE ACTION. Call your Congressional offices (Senate and House of Representatives) and request that they send judiciary, health, and environmental staffers to ADAO’s July 15 asbestos informational and legislation briefing.
