Ambler 1 On November 3, 2015, the Ambler, PA  group, Amici Dell’Italia, invited me to their monthly meeting and dinner to speak about asbestos. This was a very receptive group as most, if not each member of the group, have been exposed to Ambler asbestos and/or have lost a friend of family member to mesothelioma or other asbestos-related diseases.

My presentation encouraged each person to  “Share Your Story” so” so Ambler’s story can be shared with the world as the town was formerly known as the “Asbestos Capital of the World.” The presentation also discussed:

  • Where asbestos is in the home, workplace and community;
  • Importance of documenting asbestos exposure;
  • Always sharing asbestos exposure history with every medical practitioner;
  • Consulting a medical practitioner who specializes in mesothelioma and asbestos-related diseases
  • Importance of notifying a certified professional to assess, test and remove asbestos.

Ambler 2Ambler Crossings, the 115-unit condominium complex approved to be built on an asbestos dump was also discussed. The group was appalled that the developer would level the present asbestos parcel and dig 21-feet into the asbestos so the condos may have basements and an in-ground pool.

I made a “Call to Action” for citizens to voice their concerns and opposition to local elected officials as well as those in the State Legislatures and in the U.S. Congress. If the citizens of the community are not vocal in their objections to Ambler Crossings, then the project will move forward and the asbestos disturbed.
