The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization sends our heartfelt congratulations to Mavis Nye, UK Mesothelioma Warrior, for being recognized with the prestigious British Citizen Award (BCA).
In June 2009, Mavis was diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma. With her husband Ray by her side, Mavis had many rounds of treatments. Two years ago, Mavis began a clinical trial with Keytruda (the same drug former President Jimmy Carter is on) and has had phenomenal results.
As a prolific writer and social media influencer, Mavis shares educational materials, offers support to patients, is a key voice in UK research efforts, keeps us up to date with news and events, and masterfully navigates countless Facebook pages and blogs.
On January 28, Mavis will receive the prestigious award at the Palace of Westminster for her amazing work. As a tireless advocate and voice for change, Mavis helps patients and families, not only in the UK but also around the world. During the Presentation Ceremony, Mavis will receive a medal in the category of “Service to Healthcare” and will be featured on the British Citizen Award Roll of Honour website.
As Mavis wrote, “So through the sad time we have had some laughter along the way and met some wonderful people. Now we are looking forward to the the award ceremony end of January…we really have got to keep up the awareness of the dangers of Asbestos and I’m so proud to be playing a huge part in this and also the finding of the drugs for treatment.”

Mavis, you are truly deserving of a BCA for your volunteerism and charitable giving. We are very proud of you and know this award will further advance your work in support of a global asbestos ban and research for a cure.
