Register for the Miles for Meso Race

Submit a Mesothelioma Warrior Name

Posted on August 23, 2016

This year there are four ways to participate  — read on to find the option that fits best for you!

Dust off those running shoes–it’s almost time for the 8th Annual Miles for Meso 5K Race and 3K Walk/Fun-Run! If you’ll be in Alton, IL on September 24, this race is the place to be. If you can’t make it to the event in person, fear not! ADAO has designed the event to support Mesothelioma Warriors, victims, concerned citizens and runners from near and far–you’ll see multiple options for virtual participation in the details below.

1. Honor or Remember a Mesothelioma Warrior

Runners/walkers in the race honor or remember Meso Warriors — victims of asbestos-caused diseases, as well as their families and loved ones — by wearing bibs dedicated to individual Meso Warriors while participating in the race. Unlike joining the Virtual Race as a runner, there is no cost to submit a name – deadline is Sept. 16, 2016.

Mesothelioma Warrior Heather Von St. James explained how meaningful this tradition is for patients and families: “The virtual teams are probably my favorite part, seeing the runners running the race on behalf of meso patients all over is not only incredible, but humbling.”

2. Register as a Virtual Runner

Can’t make it to Alton, IL on race day? No problem — join in as one of our virtual Miles for Meso runners! Just register online as a racer, and with your $30 registration donation to ADAO’s advocacy efforts, you will receive a free t-shirt, and our deepest gratitude. To ensure delivery of your t-shirt for race day, you must register by Sept. 2, 2016. Late registration, open Sept. 3-16, costs $45 and includes rush shipping for your t-shirt.

Then, on race day – Sept. 24, 2016 – get together with your team and wear your shirt. Some virtual runners will walk around the block, or run a 5K course they know about in their own neighborhood. Take a picture of your virtual crew wearing their shirts and share it on Facebook or Twitter using the hashtag #milesformeso, and your photo will be shown at the Alton race via the social stream on the Jumbotron.

We have set up an ADAO #ENDMeso Virtual Team, which will be captained by ADAO powerhouses Mike and Jess, Marilyn, Ann, Jennifer, Courtney, Sandra, Domani, and Lou. Joining or donating to our team is a great way to get involved with Miles for Meso and support ADAO’s work!

3. Miles for Meso September 24th Day Racer

Of course, joining the race in person is always an option. Walk or jog in the lower-key 3K fun run, or if you really want to get your blood pumping, go for the 5K race! Registration is $25 through Aug. 31, $30 from Sept. 1 through Sept. 19 and increases to $35 thereafter for registration.

All proceeds from the Miles for Meso event will go directly to ADAO’s asbestos awareness, advocacy, community support, and education efforts.
