3-reasons-aapc-canvaThe ADAO leadership team works throughout the year to bring you the best imaginable annual conference each spring, but this year we’ve outdone ourselves, if I do say so myself! There are so many reasons why ADAO’s 13th Annual Asbestos Awareness and Prevention Conference is a must-go — here are a few:

1. Celebrating a Hard-Earned Victory

It’s always exciting to convene in Washington, D.C., the mecca of democratic change, but this year we’ll be there with huge reason to celebrate. With asbestos named to the EPA’s list of the top ten high-risk chemicals for prioritized evaluation and action, we are finally on a direct path to the ban we’ve spent years fighting for.

During this year’s conference, will we have a chance to celebrate our historic victory in unity, but we will also take the opportunity to start strategically planning what comes next for ADAO. Remember a ban is just the first step — we’ve still got a lot of work to do!

2.  Community Building on a Potomac River Cruise

As a special treat this year, in light of our victory and how hard we all worked for it, the ADAO family will be taking to the water for an unforgettable Potomac River Cruise. This Friday night floating party will kick off our conference weekend with a tone of fun and togetherness. You’ll have the chance to mingle and share knowledge with leading global experts before spending the weekend in academic sessions with them. And whether you’re familiar with DC or coming for your first time, the cruise offers a unique and spectacular view of our nation’s capital. I guarantee you’ll be wowed!

3. Art-Driven Advocacy

ADAO’s advocacy comes in many shapes, sizes and forms — as you all know, we do whatever it takes to get the job done. In 2016 we were fortunate to have a wealth of art-based advocacy behind our cause, and we’re making that a central part of our 2017 conference!

Conference attendees will be treated to a range of moving, meaningful art of many mediums. Jordan Zevon, ADAO National Spokesperson Jordan Zevon, performs on Saturday, and we’ll hear from stand-up comedian Quincy Jones, who’s bringing attention to the dangers of asbestos with his HBO special “Burning the Light,” and see award-winning photographer Earl Dotter’s asbestos themed exhibit, BADGES. During Sunday’s Unity and Remembrance Brunch, Jill Cagle will serenade us with song, and we’ll even be treated to an exclusive screening of The Mother, a short film by Paolo Monico that puts occupational asbestos exposure and mesothelioma in the spotlight.

That’s not all, either! In addition to showing off their work, all five artists will sit on and Meet the Artists panel, discussing how they use their talent and vision to fight for a better world.

You’ll find all of this exciting information and more on our BRAND NEW conference website, which is coming soon. Keep an eye out for our December launch of the new site, and be sure to take a tour — we added lots of special bells and whistles there, too.

I am beyond excited to see you all in April for our best conference yet!

In unity,

Linda
