As part of the ADAO family, you have helped us create an exceptional community where asbestos victims can find support, educational resources, and opportunities to get involved and join the fight for a ban. So, you may be excited to hear about our end-of-year giving drive. As an independent nonprofit, ADAO is completely dependent on the goodwill of our community and supporters to fund the work we do, from our asbestos awareness efforts to hosting a world renowned annual conference. In the past year, generous donors have also allowed us to organize several Congressional briefings and hearings in Washington, which ultimately resulted in a year of historic legislative victories that—for the first time in 30 years—have us on a clear path to a full federal ban on asbestos.
While we’re certainly celebrating this collective accomplishment, this is just the first step — our job is far from done, and we need your help to keep making life-saving change happen. We’ve got lots of work ahead in 2017, both in Washington and in the community:
- preventing junk science from derailing progress toward a ban by remaining an active stakeholder during TSCA implementation
- mounting a campaign against the 2017 FACT Act, which strips asbestos victims of their civil rights and is heavily lobbied for by the chemical industry
- hosting our 13th Annual Asbestos Awareness and Prevention Conference
- expanding and promoting Global Asbestos Awareness Week to increase public understanding of the man-made asbestos disaster we face at home and support abroad
