Briefing Flyer

The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) is heading to Washington, DC on Tuesday to take our powerful ban asbestos advocacy to Capitol Hill once again, and we need YOUR HELP to make it successful!

On Thursday, April 27, we’ll be co-hosting an educational briefing along with the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) for Senate staffers handling environmental, health, judiciary and veterans’ issues. The purpose of this briefing is to discuss pending legislation, TSCA implementation, and the increase in mesothelioma deaths.

Speakers Include:

  • Julie Gundlach, Mesothelioma Warrior, (MO)
  • Carrie McNamara, Mesothelioma Warrior, (IA)
  • Linda Reinstein, ADAO President and Mesothelioma Widow (CA)
  • Scott Slesinger, Legislative Director, Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC)
  • Robin Tucker, Mesothelioma Warrior (OH)

Here’s how you can help:

  • CALL the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and request that your two US Senators send Judiciary, Health, and Environmental staffers to ADAO’s April 27th one-hour luncheon briefing. Please use the script below and post your message on my Facebook wall to let the community know you have called and what their office said. Use the script below to guide your call.

Phone script: “Hello, my name is (first name) and I am one of your constituents from (town where you live).  I’m calling to confirm that your health and environmental staffers received the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization’s invitation to their staff luncheon briefing on April 27 at 11 AM. This invitation was sent to your office on April 17 via email. It is very important to me that the Judiciary, Health, and Environmental staffers attend this educational briefing about legislation that could impact consumers’ safety, public health, and asbestos victims’ civil rights. Please RSVP by close of business Wednesday via the link on the invitation flyer which is http://bit.ly/ADAOApril2017 or call: (310) 251-7477. Thank you.”

  • SHARE YOUR STORY — When we travel to Washington, we bring stacks of Share Your Stories for hand-delivery to lawmakers.  It’s not to late to get your story on the desks of your elected officials and their team! If you haven’t already shared, Share Your Story through our platform, by our printing deadline on Monday, April 24th.  Once you’ve shared, be sure to call your Senators and confirm their attendance at our briefing, as we will only be printing out stories from states represented at the briefing.

Collectively we’ve made historic progress in the past year, and we’re not stopping now. YOU ALL are the reason why we’ve accomplished so much; thank you for stepping up to the plate time and time again.

Together, we ARE making change happen, and if we keep fighting hard, we WILL see an asbestos-free future.

Linda
