SIGN THE PETITION: U.S. Environmental Protection Agency: Ban Asbestos in the US Now, Without Loopholes or Exceptions

Posted on July 27 2017

WOW! Last month, the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) began circulating a change.org petition calling on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to ban asbestos with no loopholes or exemptions. In just a few weeks, we’ve already gathered more than 10,000 signatures.

We had initially planned on simply delivering this petition to the EPA’s Washington, DC headquarters, but given the incredible attention — and opportune timing — we’re taking it one step further.  We are submitting thousands of petition signatures and other evidence into the EPA’s permanent record — supporting the need to ban asbestos without exemptions.

As you know, the EPA is currently in the early stages of the risk evaluation process for asbestos and has invited the public to provide comment. The EPA has requested “information from the public that could be useful to the Agency in conducting problem formulation, the next step in the process of conducting the required risk evaluations.”

The EPA already has far more evidence than they need to ban asbestos outright. Scientists have been in consensus for decades about the fact that asbestos causes cancer and other diseases in humans. With 15,000 Americans dying every year from asbestos-caused diseases, we shouldn’t even have to ASK for it to be banned, but here we are.

Each name on the petition will go down in history as a voice who took a stand against asbestos. The more names on the petition when we submit it to the EPA, the stronger our message, so please SIGN if you haven’t already, and SHARE, SHARE, SHARE. Our goal is to hit at least 25,000 by September 15.

Join us on the right side of history! Sign our petition for an exemption-free asbestos ban today and spread the word. Together, we will fight in solidarity until asbestos is banned once and for all.
