The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization Announces Its Honorees for the 14th Annual International Asbestos Awareness and Prevention Conference

The 2018 Conference Honors Eleven Asbestos Warriors Who Have Given Selflessly of Themselves in the Fight against Asbestos  

WASHINGTON, DC – The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO), an independent nonprofit dedicated to preventing asbestos exposure; today announced the honorees at its 14th Annual International Asbestos Awareness and Prevention Conference, “Where Knowledge and Action Unite,” April 13-15, 2018 in Washington, D.C.

This year’s academic conference recognizes a number of key “warriors” who have given of themselves to help in the fight against asbestos disease, to help influence a ban, and uncover injustices that have led to our current asbestos crisis.

2018 Asbestos Awareness Conference Honorees Include:

Senator Jeff Merkley will be recognized with The Tribute of Hope Award for his steadfast commitment to awareness, prevention, and policy to eliminate asbestos-related diseases.

Jock McCulloch will be honored posthumously with The Dr. Irving Selikoff Lifetime Achievement Award in honor of his tireless dedication to increasing awareness about asbestos and for his outstanding contributions for truth and justice. 

Dr. Jukka Takala will be recognized with The Dr. Irving Selikoff Lifetime Achievement Award in honor of his tireless dedication to increasing awareness about asbestos to eliminate diseases and research that leads to a cure.

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) will be recognized with The Tribute of Unity Award for their relentless efforts to protect public health, ban asbestos, and increase public awareness about the danger of asbestos.

Patrick J. Morrison will be recognized with The Tribute of Inspiration Award for his unwavering commitment to protecting public health and our environment from toxic exposures.

Chris Graham and Michael Gillard will be recognized with The Andrew Schneider Memorial Award for their excellent investigative journalism.  

Daniel Pineda González will be recognized with The Alan Reinstein Award for his commitment to education, advocacy, and providing support to countless patients and families.

Eric Jonckheere will be recognized with The Alan Reinstein Award for his commitment to education, advocacy, and providing support to countless patients and families.

Annamarie Kearns will be recognized with The Alan Reinstein Award for her commitment to education, advocacy, and providing support to countless patients and families.

Rachel Shaneyfelt will be honored posthumously with The Alan Reinstein Award for her commitment to education, advocacy, and providing support to countless patients and families.

“Without the dedication of these honorees and our global family of asbestos warriors, we would be nowhere in the fight to ban asbestos and end its horrible tragedy,” stated ADAO President and Co-Founder, Linda Reinstein. “This year’s annual conference recognizes key individuals who have made a tangible difference in our united fight against asbestos, and to help influence a ban. The list includes a wide range of political activists, journalists, medical practitioners, and most importantly—individual asbestos warriors—who keep our movement going.
