5th Asbestos Awareness Day Conference

AAD Conference was a huge success!

The 5th Annual Asbestos Awareness Conference received rave reviews from the 125-plus participants, speakers, honorees, and volunteers who convened over the weekend in Manhattan Beach, California. They called it, "Inspirational."  And, "Amazing."  Said one, "I go to similar conferences all the time.  This weekend had a very different, remarkable feeling."  Declared another, "We were awed and felt the love of the ADAO community all weekend."

The event, made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization, the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, and the International Ban Asbestos Secretariat, brought together anti-asbestos advocates from across the United States and from Germany, England, and South Africa in a call to action to prevent, detect, and treat asbestos-related diseases.

The meeting provided a forum where leaders in the field could share their invaluable knowledge and experience, and on Saturday, an international panel of speakers addressed topics including prevention; advances in diagnosis and treatment of ARD; patient and family resources and support; and global advocacy. In a rare public appearance, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Andrew Schneider (whose series of articles in The Seattle Post-Intelligencer broke the story of the asbestos contamination in Libby, Montana) served as keynote speaker.

Other conference highlights included musical performances by ADAO National Spokesperson Jordan Zevon and fellow entertainer Jordan Summers, a Sunday Remembrance Brunch in honor of loved ones lost to asbestos disease, and the presentation of awards for distinguished contributions to the fight against asbestos.

ADAO sincerely appreciates our Partners, Speakers, Corporate and Educational Sponsors and of course, our volunteers, who made our conference possible.

We encourage you all to join us in the observance of the 5th Annual National Asbestos Awareness Week beginning  tomorrow, April 1 through April 7.
