Global and National Asbestos Awareness Week, April 1-7, 2012

March has been a month of exciting news at the ADAO office! The U.S. Senate unanimously passed S. Res. 389, designating the first week of April 2012 as “National Asbestos Awareness Week.” Read more about the Resolution in the press release and join us in our congratulations to all those who made this Resolution possible: http://bit.ly/AsgG0w

National Asbestos Awareness Week will once again coincide with Global Asbestos Awareness Week (GAAW), taking place from April 1 – 7, 2012. GAAW aims to raise asbestos awareness and prevent asbestos-caused diseases through education around the world. Join us and see what a powerful force for spreading awareness we can be when we work together and strengthen our community.

In 2004, the World Health Organization reported that, “asbestos-related lung cancer, mesothelioma, and asbestosis from occupational exposures resulted in 107,000 deaths.” This isn’t just a number; each one is a patient, family, and friend who have been impacted by preventable deadly diseases. So ink your calendars and sign up to be a GAAW Supporter! The time is now, together change is possible, and here are two ways in which you can help:

1) Register for our 2012 Asbestos Awareness Conference, Asbestos: An International Public Health Crisis, where you can learn more about the deadly facts

2) Share this post with your social circle using the “Share This” function on the top right of this post!

Deepthi, one of my wonderful interns from India, would like to share a message in support of Global Awareness Week “प्रतिबंध अभ्रक”

Here’s to uniting the world to make it free of asbestos and asbestos-related diseases.

In unity,

Linda
