Powerful, honest, and vibrant.  Barbara McQueen courageously shared her story with the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) at our recent Asbestos Awareness Conference.  On Saturday, March 31, Barbara McQueen, widow of Steve McQueen, accepted the Warren Zevon “Keep Me in Your Heart Memorial Tribute Award” on behalf of her late husband.  As part of her interview during the conference, Barbara shared a spectacular video with us detailing her time spent with Steve in their three years together. For those of us that fondly remember the great actor and “King of Cool,” it’s a sobering reminder that asbestos does not discriminate.  Barbi’s recently published book, The Last Mile, is a photographic journey into Steve’s amazing, uplifting, and ‘cool’ life. It is a beautifully written story of love, art, family, and a life that ended far too soon.

ADAO invites you to watch the heart-warming Steven McQueen video that was part of our awards ceremony and evening dinner.  As Barbara poignantly says, “If he were alive today, he’d be kicking some serious ass over this. Unfortunately, he didn’t live to tell about it.”

ADAO truly appreciates our new friendship with Barbara and respects her tenacity to prevent asbestos-caused diseases.   This video serves as a reminder of why she does what she does, and we thank her for it!  Although I never had the privilege of meeting Steve McQueen, I certainly agree with his powerful quote that always sparks a fire in my heart, “When I believe in something, I fight like hell for it.”

In Unity,

Linda
