Symposium & Exhibit Commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the birth of Dr. Irving J. Selikoff
This symposium will examine the lasting impact of the legacy of Dr. Irving J. Selikoff (January 15, 1915-May 20, 1992) on occupational health and safety in the United States. Considered the father of occupational medicine, he is remembered for his seminal research on asbestos-related illnesses, his tireless advocacy for worker safety and health protections, and his contributions to the establishment of federal asbestos regulations.
In conjunction with the symposium, there will be an exhibit by photographer Earl Dotter on display titled Badges: A Memorial Tribute to Asbestos Workers. The BADGES Exhibit will be located in the Main Lobby of Mt. Sinai Hospital at Fifth Avenue and 101st Streets: The Entrance is at 1190 Fifth Avenue or from 1468 Madison Avenue, through the Annenberg Building on the 1st Floor near the cafeteria.
