ZEVONISTAS UNITE!!! CANVAADAO is gearing up for the 7th Annual Alton Miles for Meso 5k Race & 2k Walk/Fun Run in Alton, IL and Mesothelioma Awareness Day!  The race will take place on Sept. 26, and will have activities for attendees of all ages. If you can’t make it to the event in person, consider one of our virtual participation options.  ADAO has carefully crafted the event to support Mesothelioma Warriors, victims, concerned citizens and runners from near and far! All proceeds from the Miles for Meso event will go directly to ADAO’s asbestos awareness, advocacy, community support, and education efforts. Your contributions are the life force behind ADAO’s work and enable the largest asbestos victims advocacy group in the U.S. to continue pushing for change and public health protection!

ADAO is excited to have our national Spokesperson, Jordan Zevon, perform on the day of the race. Jordan has also started his own team, The Zevonistas, in honor of his father Warren Zevon who passed away from Mesothelioma. Whether you are a fan of Warren, Jordan, or ADAO, you can make a pledge today to how your support! Thank you Jordan for your dedication!

The ADAO Mesothelioma Warrior Virtual Team will once again accept submissions of the names of Meso Warriors (individuals who have been diagnosed with an asbestos-related disease, victims who have lost their battles, or family members of these victims) to be worn by Miles for Meso runners/walkers.  Meso Warriors are patients, family member of the patient, or a Unlike the Virtual Race, the Mesothelioma Warrior Virtual Team has no registration fee, although donations are welcomed.  Join the ADAO family and support our warriors!!

2: Virtual Race

Can’t make it to Alton, IL on race day? No problem – join in as one of our virtual Miles for Meso racers! Just register online as a racer and with your $25 donation to ADAO’s advocacy efforts, you will receive a free t-shirt, and our deepest gratitude . To ensure delivery of your t-shirt for Mesothelioma Awareness Day, you must register by Sept. 20, 2015.

3: Miles for Meso Event Day Racer

There is still time to sign up for the Alton Miles for Meso Race! Registration is $30 through Sept. 21 and increases to $35 there after for registration. This year Jordan Zevon, ADAO Spokesperson, will be creating a running team – The Zevonistas Team, in honor of this father, Warren Zevon, and his struggle with mesothelioma.

4: Mesothelioma Warrior Community Dinner: ADAO will be hosting a “Miles for Meso” Warrior Community Dinner for registered racers. This dinner will take place Friday, Sept. 25 at Gentelin’s on Broadway in Alton, Ill. at 6:00 p.m. CST. Please RSVP by September 21 at 5 pm ET.  Click here to RSVP.

Race Day Events: This year’s Miles for Meso race will be the home of many activities for all ages. The event schedule is as follows:

  • 7:30 a.m. – Race Day Registration opens
  • 7:30 a.m. – Vendor Fair and Kids Zone open
  • 8:30 a.m. – Pre-Race Ceremony Begins
  • 9:00 a.m. – 5k Race/2k Walk and Fun Run begins
  • 10:00 a.m. – Jordan Zevon, ADAO National Spokesperson performs
  • 10:15 a.m. – Awards Ceremony begins

5: Mesothelioma Awareness and ACTION on September 26

To continue the awareness and advocacy efforts, be sure to stop by the ADAO table on race day! Either in person or online, all participants are encouraged to Send Your Letter to Congress Urging Them Stand Up for AMERICANS and BAN ASBESTOS!  Your letter will be emailed to your Members of Congress and greatly help in the fight to ban asbestos and protect asbestos victims’ rights to justice. You may also “Share your Story” on the ADAO website or read the inspirational stories from our Mesothelioma Warriors! Sharing makes us stronger.

Do I have to be a registered Miles for Meso Racer to attend ADAO’s Friday night Mesothelioma Warrior Team dinner?

Yes, you must be registered as an “in person” runner.

How much does it cost to put my loved one’s name on a runner’s bib?

Commemorative bibs are worn by runners/walkers in attendance at the Alton Miles for Meso race. Unlike the Virtual Race, the Mesothelioma Warrior Virtual Team has no cost to join.
