Briefing Flyer

Posted on August 30, 2017

Our 12th Congressional Staff Briefing will be undoubtedly one of our most important briefings ever, and we need your help — invite and encourage your two U.S. Senators to send their Health, Environmental, Judiciary, and Veterans Affairs Staffers.

USE YOUR VOICE.

On Mesothelioma Awareness Day — Tuesday, September 26 — the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) will host a Congressional Staff Briefing “TSCA and Asbestos: Protecting Public Health and the Environment” in Washington, D.C. With your help, we can educate Congressional staffers with the NEW information about increased asbestos imports and the deadly asbestos impact in homes, schools, workplaces, and our environment. Ideally, our briefing could even inspire them to introduce legislation to completely ban asbestos now, eliminating the chance of the EPA writing exemptions into their forthcoming regulation. Nothing matters more to Senators and staffers than hearing from their constituents, so we’re asking you to reach out and tell your senators why this briefing is so important.

TAKE ACTION!

We now have two options for you to personally invite you Senators!

    1. Submit your personal information using this Google form, and we will create and send a personal invite to your Senate offices on your behalf.
    2. Take a minute to personally call your Senate office following these simple instructions:
      1. Call the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 to speak with your U.S. Senators (you’ll be making two separate calls to reach each of your Senator’s offices)
      2. When your office answers, please use the script below to request that they send Judiciary, Health, and Environmental staffers to ADAO’s September 26th one-hour luncheon briefing
      3. Once you’ve made your calls, post a message on my Facebook wall to let the community know you have called and what their office said.

PhoneScript: Hello, my name is (first name) and I am one of your constituents from (state where you live).  I’m reaching out to confirm that your Health, Environmental, Judiciary, and Veterans’ Affairs staffers received the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization’s invitation to their staff luncheon briefing on September 26 at 12 noon. This invitation was sent to your office on September 7 via email. It is very important to me that the you send staffers from your office to this educational briefing with new information about increased asbestos imports and how Congress can ensure TSCA evaluation and regulation effectively protects American public health and the environment from asbestos and the incurable diseases it causes. Please RSVP by close of business Friday, September 22 via the link on the invitation flyer which is http://bit.ly/ADAOSept2017 or call: (310) 251-7477. Thank you.

If you have any problems or questions, please contact Herman Hamilton via email or Facebook.

Thank you in advance for stepping up to help make this briefing a success. Together, we are shaping policy for a safer world!

• Asbestos is still found in homes, schools, offices, and consumer products
• The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has decades of evidence proving asbestos is deadly, but industry trade associations are appealing for use exemptions from any forthcoming regulation
