Each year, ADAO dedicates April 1-7 to increasing awareness of asbestos and preventing exposure by bringing together experts and victims from around the world to share, learn, and take action.  To view all 7 days of Global Asbestos Awareness Week (GAAW) contributors and content on our landing page, please click here.  Also, be sure to follow the conversation with our GAAW hashtag: #2018GAAW.

We’re honored to share today the powerful story of 2018 GAAW Day Four Ambassador: Heather Von St. James, Minnesota, US. Today, we’re also highlighting digital education innovations that are advancing asbestos prevention worldwide, such as ADAO’s brand new “kNØw Asbestos” website.

As I shared last year, ADAO was sought out by the Assistant Attorney General of Washington State to be the recipient of a restitution award stemming from an asbestos lawsuit in Spokane. While we were angered at the negligence that caused the lawsuit, we were thrilled at the opportunity to use those funds to develop a cutting edge website to serve as a one-stop resource guide to learn about the dangers of asbestos and what you can do about it. Created in collaboration and consultation with a committee of strong international partners, our user-friendly platform promotes and enables easy access to credible asbestos resources and prevention tips and tools, which makes an ideal educational resource to advance our global ban asbestos efforts.

Asbestos-caused diseases are 100% preventable — prevent asbestos exposure, and you prevent disease. This is why accurate and accesible education is so incredibly important. Unfortunately, so much of the good information and resources about asbestos are buried on hard-to-navigate government websites. We hope that our new “kNØw Asbestos” site helps make this information easier to find and easier to share. Please check it out and spread the word with your family and friends! Remember, when it comes to asbestos, learning truly does save lives.

Together, we make change happen.
