Each year, ADAO dedicates April 1-7 to increasing awareness of asbestos and preventing exposure by bringing together experts and victims from around the world to share, learn, and take action.  To view all 7 days of Global Asbestos Awareness Week (GAAW) contributors and content on our landing page, please click here.  Also, be sure to follow the conversation with our GAAW hashtag: #2018GAAW.

Today, we’re highlighting ADAO’s fabulous collaborators, especially the organizations who offered early support behind the Alan Reinstein Ban Asbestos Now Act (ARBAN). We’re also featuring the story of 2018 GAAW Day Six Ambassador: Sara Babin, France.

For the last 14 years, ADAO has been run out of a small home office in Manhattan Beach, California with fewer than a handful of people (and dogs) manning the wheel. Despite these humble headquarters, our lean, mean, organization has grown to a network of tens of thousands of advocates and supporters all across the globe, and we’re leading the charge for legislative change. The one thing that makes this all possible is the power of collaboration.

From individual volunteers to partnering nonprofits, thousands contribute to ADAO’s progress toward a global asbestos ban. Fighting for asbestos prohibition has been an uphill battle against deep-pocketed lobbyists and pro-asbestos propaganda, but through it all, a number of international organizations have stood with us, fighting for our common goal. One by one, we are working to ban asbestos in our respective countries, and when Sen. Merkley and Congresswoman Bonamici introduced The Alan Reinstein Ban Asbestos Now Act  (ARBAN), our global partners stood in support immediately.

Please join me in thanking the early The Alan Reinstein Ban Asbestos Now Act Endorsees:
American Public Health Association (APHA)
Canadian Mesothelioma Foundation
Center for Asbestos Related Disease (CARD Clinic)
Environmental Information Association (EIA)
Environmental Working Group (EWG)
Global Ban Asbestos Network (GBAN)
Less Cancer
National Council for Occupational Safety & Health (COSH)
Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC)
Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families
Associação Brasileira dos Expostos ao Amianto (ABREA)

But for ADAO, it’s more than just policy — it’s about collaborative prevention efforts too.

The #2018GAAW campaign has never been stronger!  As Simon Butt-Bethlendy, Public Relations Manager for IOSH, shared No Time to Lose – working together to tackle asbestos-related cancer will be the fourth and largest phase of our campaign. We’re really pleased to be joining forces with Linda and the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization to draw more attention to Global Asbestos Awareness Week as we prepare for our own asbestos campaign launch.”

In fact, you can join ADAO in supporting the international Thunderclap “No Time to Lose Asbestos” social media campaign on April 9th too.

We would be remiss to not also express our sincere gratitude to McOnie, a premiere UK-based public relations firm that for the past few years has partnered with ADAO to help bring Global Asbestos Awareness Week to an international audience. Thank you, Team McOnie, for being such an important part of raising awareness worldwide.

Join the global conversation by connecting with @_NTTL, @McOnieAgency,  and @linda_ADAO and remember to use #2018GAAW in your Tweets and Facebook posts.

Together, we make change happen.
