Ellen Costa, Sen. Jeff Merkley, Linda Reinstein

The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) was honored and proud to present U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) and Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR-01) with the Tribute of Hope Award on Thursday, April 12. Senator Merkley and Congresswoman Bonamici are the ban asbestos now champions who have sponsored The Alan Reinstein Ban Asbestos Now Act (ARBAN): S.2072 and H.R.5114.

Each year at ADAO’s International Asbestos Awareness and Prevention Conference, the Tribute of Hope Award is presented to two individuals with a steadfast commitment to awareness, prevention, and policy to eliminate asbestos-related diseases. The 14th Annual Conference took place on April 13 – 15, 2018 in Washington, DC. This exciting event brought together over 30 expert opinions, victims’ stories, and new technological advancements from 9 countries across the globe into one united voice raising awareness about asbestos.

ADAO is eternally grateful for the tireless work of Senator Merkley and Congresswoman Bonamici to protect public health and the environment. We thank them not only for their commitment to our cause and their courage to champion legislation during a demanding political climate, but also for making time to allow us to express our deepest thanks to them both in person. We need more public servants who care as deeply about their constituents as they do.

Special thanks to Ellen Costa, ADAO Board Member, for joining me on these important award presentations.

Together, we’re closer to a US asbestos ban than ever before.
