We are very pleased to announce that Earl Dotter, ADAO supporter, and the original creator of the BADGES, A Memorial Tribute to Asbestos Workers Exhibit has just published a new retrospective book featuring the BADGES exhibit. His new 250-page book with 500 beautifully reproduced photographs is called: LIFE’S WORK, A Fifty Year Photographic Chronicle of Working in the U.S.A., just published by AIHA PRESS. Earl has also created a photography exhibit of the same name now on view at the AFL-CIO headquarters in Washington, DC until November 29th.

In this new volume, Dotter reprises highlights from exhibits he has created since he first photographed coal miners in 1968 up through the present time featuring a chapter about his current BADGES: A Memorial Tribute to Asbestos Workers exhibit, with an introduction by ADAO member and asbestos expert, Barry Castleman. In the book, the photo ID Badges of workers who mined, manufactured or used asbestos are personalized with those same badges naming the companies that harmed them.  Furthermore, the book chapter illustrates the historical toll of workers lives taken through photographs taken through WWII and the ongoing toll taken today with newer Dotter photographs of emergency responders on Ground Zero and from current environmental related exposure to asbestos

Each year since 2014, Earl has prepared the BADGES exhibit for showings at the ADAO annual meeting. BADGES exhibit posters from 2015-18 have honored the memory of Dr. Irving Selikoff; the good work of Senator Barbara Boxer in advancing the signing of the new Toxic Substances Control Act, signed into law by President Barack Obama; and Asbestos Fighters like International Association of Firefighters Union Health & Safety Director, Patrick Morrison and Dr. Raja Flores, the Chair of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Mt. Sinai Medical Center.

You can order this large-format book, signed or inscribed by Earl directly. He will donate 25% of book sale profits toward support of the ongoing development of the BADGES Exhibit. The cost is $69 + $6 for Media Mail shipping and handling.  Email Earl at earldotter@gmail.com and he will provide you with a PayPal invoice for credit card purchase. The evolving  BADGES exhibit continues to be presented every year at ADAO as well as at venues like the AFL-CIO, the Harvard School of Public Health and NIOSH in Cincinnati.

Now with Earl’s new LIFE’S WORK book featuring the BADGES exhibit, this unique exhibit takes its message to a wider and wider audience, commanding the attention of those who just might pass by workers and the general public still suffering from asbestos exposure’s lethal consequences.

Earl, it is an honor and a privilege to work with you on the BADGES exhibits.
