Since 2005, the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization’s (ADAO) annual conference has brought together experts, survivors, unions, and lawmakers from many different countries to connect and share the latest asbestos-related education, advocacy, and community support efforts.

But our rallying cry for this conference – yet unmatched in scope and size – has always been “where knowledge and action unite.” By our very own words, we have owed the asbestos prevention community something more: the chance to take action.

The 15th Annual International Asbestos Awareness and Prevention Conference will follow that of past conferences by being the only annual asbestos conference dedicated solely to preventing exposure and eliminating asbestos-caused diseases, but it will also be the first in our history to begin in the streets.

Remembrance, where we will march in honor and remembrance of asbestos victims across the nation. We will show the world – loudly and clearly – that asbestos is not a problem of the past. During our 2-mile walk from JFK Hockey Fields (which is near the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool) to Capitol Hill, all march participants are welcome to carry  a photograph of their loved one or handmade sign.

This year’s conference will bring together experts from all over the world. Attendees will have a unique opportunity to connect with the most prominent leaders and influencers in the asbestos prevention community, as well as victims and family members sharing in the fight against asbestos—turning anger into action. During our conference, the voices of those impacted by the harms of asbestos are centered.

Our conferences are not merely the domain of academics and scholars. Throughout the weekend, ADAO will be showcasing the work of incredible musicians, photographers, and filmmakers, bringing our movement to life through the lens of the artists.

And yet – despite the pedigree of our speakers, the power of advocacy-infused-art, and the impact of taking our message to the streets – most conference attendees find that the most important moments of ADAO’s conferences are entirely unscripted. After the speeches are finished and the songs are sung, it’s the hugs between victims in the hallway that mean the most. It’s the memories of meals shared with fellow advocates that truly last. It’s the embrace of a community of like-minded people, letting you know you’re not alone in this fight. ADAO has always been an organization based around community-building, and that will never change. We invite you to join our community and save the date April 5-7 for our 15th Annual International Asbestos Awareness and Prevention Conference.

It bears repeating: you are not alone in this fight. Every year, families of fellow survivors, artists, experts, and world leaders get together in Washington D.C. to remind the world that we will not give up until asbestos is banned, once and for all, without any loopholes or exemptions.

In unity,
