Press Release (Portuguese): A Organização de Consciencialização sobre a Asbestose (ADAO) Lança a 15ª “Semana Global Anual de Consciencialização sobre o Amianto”, que terá lugar de 1 a 7 de Abril de 2019

Featured on April 5, 2019

Asbestos is a known carcinogen and there is no safe level of exposure.

Each year, the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) dedicates April 1-7 to increasing awareness of asbestos and preventing exposure by bringing together experts and victims from around the world to share, learn, and take action.  To view all 7 days of Global Asbestos Awareness Week (GAAW) content, please click here.  Also, be sure to follow the conversation with our GAAW hashtag: #2019GAAW.

Today, we are sharing Mike Mattmuller’s story, “Staying Positive.” Mike was diagnosed with mesothelioma when he was a 29 year-old newlywed. Mike and his wife, Jessica, had their first daughter in the summer of 2016, so staying positive throughout his battle with mesothelioma has been a must. The couple have become strong ambassadors for awareness, actively volunteering, sharing their story, and even testifying at Congress on multiple occasions. We thank the them for dedicating so much time and energy to forwarding our collective goal of a safer, asbestos-free world.

This year, ADAO’s 15th Annual International Asbestos Awareness and Prevention Conference we will be kicking off with the first ever March For Justice and Remembrance, where we will march in honor and remembrance of asbestos victims across the nation. We will show the world – loudly and clearly – that asbestos is not a problem of the past. During our two-mile walk from the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool to Capitol hill, all march participants are welcome to hold either a white flower or a photograph of their loved ones affected by asbestos.

We hope you are able to join us for this special event, and if not, we know you will be there with us in spirit!

Today, ADAO recognizes the McOnie Agency for partnering for prevention.

Together, we make change happen.
