ADAO would like to extend our gratitude to Matt Peacock and the Australian Broadcasting Company for granting us access to their amazing and informative documentary on the continued use of asbestos in roofing and other products in India. This short documentary takes a look at the process of asbestos imported from Canada being used in a variety of situations in India, and the effects it has on the people working with and those who are exposed to the asbestos being used. Mr. Peacock and the ABC have been supporters of increasing occupational health and safety for years, and it is through their continued work that we are able to see differences made through education throughout the world.

The use of asbestos in India has become what some are terming an epidemic, and some feel that it is likely to soon reach catastrophic levels. While Canada continues to export hundreds of tons each year to India, there appears to be no end in sight. Indian officials in support of continued asbestos use point out that even if Canada were to finally ban the exporting of asbestos, India would soon import the material from countries such as Russia or Kazakhstan, nations that find themselves on the list of the top five exporters of asbestos.

Please take the time to watch this amazing piece of journalism and to share it with friends, family, and loved ones so we can spread the word about how dangerous this deadly mineral truly is.

In unity,

Linda Reinstein
