This week we feature the band Mandown Fun, Uptempo Rock-N-Roll from Omaha, Nebraska.

Mandown came out of the ashes of 2 very successful Omaha area bands: Blue Moon Ghetto and Old Boy Network. In 1999, after the demise of those 2 bands, Joel Kassera, Vince Giambattista and Dave Backhaus decided there was still music to be played and songs to be heard! They quickly wrote a handful of songs and released their debut self-titled album. Many local and regional shows soon followed. But, it wasn’t until Kassera moved from drums/singer to guitar singer/front man though that Mandown found its stride. The new found energy of the live show was just what the band was missing and when they added Scott Evans on drums the band was complete!

Their sophomore release, Shoulders, is when the band found its signature upbeat, catchy rock sound. The 1st single, I would Fly Around You (The Helicopter Song) hit the 89.7 the River airwaves in the summer of 2001, and soon the band was headlining sold out shows at the famed Ranch Bowl here in Omaha. Regional and national tours were soon to follow! Mandown played a few record companies showcase shows in California, but eventually disbanded in 2004. Over the years, there have been a few near reunions but they never came to fruition. Just when everyone was about to give up hope, Kassera moved back to town (from Arizona) and the band decided to play a reunion show. In November of 2013, the guys played their much anticipated reunion show after 10 years to a packed house at the Waiting Room Lounge. The band has some PLANS! Starting with this Asbestos Awareness Benefit show that Mandown is happy to be Part of (9/26) @ the slowdown, they also hope to have an E.P. of brand new material available before the end of the year. Stay Tuned!

Check back next week to read about Cosmic Radio, and don’t miss a great evening with ADAO and all of our talented performers in Omaha on September 26. See you then!

In unity,

Linda
