2014 Mesothelioma Warrior Candle Lighting List

Posted on January 8, 2015

Dec 28 Jan 4 CandleHundreds of candles flickered online and in homes on December 28 and January 4 as patients, families, and friends from around the world joined today for the 2014 Mesothelioma Warrior Candle Lighting Tradition.

This year the candle lighting held a special remembrance for mesothelioma warrior, Jill Vaughn, whose original candle lighting tradition still brings us hope and light year after year.  As we mourn the loss of Jill, we will honor her strength, courage, and unending compassion.

Since 2009, we have added more than 500 names to the list which now has nearly 800 names.  Click here to view the 2014 Warriors List.  Hundreds of people on Facebook shared the Mesothelioma Warrior Candle Lighting Tradition graphic and information with their family and friends.  This was another wonderful example of the power of social media to raise awareness, build communities, and offer community support.

Many of the Warriors for whom we light candles are featured in our Share Your Story collection. If you have not shared yours or your loved one’s story, please look over our collection and consider Sharing Your Story today. These stories are the glue that binds us together, raising educational awareness, offering support for others who strive for a world free from asbestos disease, providing a cathartic outlet, and reminding others that they are not alone.

Special thanks also to Julie Burns, a tireless and dedicated volunteer, who helps to continue Jill’s important candle lighting tradition.  Click here to read our interview with Julie.

As we begin 2015, may we all draw strength from the Warrior community and offer support to others when possible.

Please note, any Mesothelioma Warrior Candle Lighting names submitted after December 20 will be added to the list on or before March 31,2015.

In unity,

Linda
