Posted on November 18, 2015Each year, Australians dedicate the last week in November to asbestos awareness, education, and remembrance to those who have lost their lives from preventable asbestos-caused diseases.

Slide3This year, the 2nd Annual Asbestos Safety and Eradication Agency conference begins on Monday, November 23.  It is truly an honor to present with Dr. Tim Driscoll in the “Global Burden of Asbestos” session.

Even though all six forms of asbestos have been banned in Australia since 2003, asbestos-related diseases continue to increase due to the latency period of the diseases. During this week, the Asbestos Safety and Eradication Agency (ASEA) focuses on increasing awareness about the dangers of home renovations and DIY projects, due to the deadly asbestos fibers that can be disturbed when precautions are not taken. Even the smallest amount of asbestos dust can be lethal – it is crucial to be aware of the dangers and the proper protection methods..

This year, ADAO will feature six Australian “Share Your Stories” each day of the week and conclude with a candle light vigil.

Monday, November 23: Lou’s Story: “I Will Not Die in Vain”

Tuesday, November 24: Barry’s Story: Nothing Short Of A Miracle”

Wednesday, November 25: Anita’s Story: “Women and Mesothelioma”

Thursday, November 26: Steve’s Story: “Mesothelioma Can’t Take That Away”

Friday, November 27: Mary’s Story: “Put a Smile On”

Saturday, November 28: Gary’s Story: Faded Away”

Sunday, November 29: Jim’s Story: “An Enormous Shock”

As Australia’s Asbestos Awareness Week comes to an end, on Sunday, we will light candles online and in our homes honoring Mesothelioma Warriors around the world .

Together, change is possible.
