Press Release: ADAO President Calls on EPA to Demonstrate Success of TSCA Reform by Prioritizing Asbestos as a Top Ten Chemical for Risk Evaluation

EPA Stakeholder Mtgs CANVAThe Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) held two public stakeholder meetings August 9-10 to get input on the early steps of TSCA implementation. The August 9 meeting was focused on establishing guidelines for the risk evaluation process, and the August 10 focused on how the chemical prioritization process will take place.

ADAO participated remotely, offering oral comments via the telephone. Nearly 100 stakeholders spoke over the course of the two meetings, and even more attended just to listen. ADAO was glad to hear input from a few friends and colleagues, including Celeste Monforton of the American Public Health Association (APHA) and Andy Igrejas of Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families (SCHF).  The truth is, though, we were outnumbered by the chemical industry, who flooded the public comment portion with the wants and needs of the industry.

Twitter and Facebook were on fire with sharing! We compiled some of the shared posts into a Storify so you can see for yourself how prevalent ADAO’s message was.

The support and sharing the #TSCA #TopTen messaging and graphics were a huge help in making sure our message was and is heard, but we’re not done.

We’re extending our Social Media Blitz through Mesothelioma Awareness Day on September 26, and we encourage you to keep sharing our simple message: I’m calling on the @EPA to prioritize #asbestos on the 2016 #TSCA #TopTen list for risk evaluation.

You can use this message along with graphics attached in this blog, the personalized graphics from our Raise Your Voice campaign, and Share Your Story submissions. The time is NOW to urge the EPA to prioritize asbestos on the 2016 #TSCA #TopTen list.

Together, we make change happen!
