Within the next week, two exciting events will be taking place in support of mesothelioma patients. Tomorrow, June 14, the John Hayes Golf Memorial Golf Committee will host the 11th Annual John Hayes Memorial Golf Outing in Glenwood, Illinois. The event will be held in honor of Tom Eder, a longtime member of the International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers who is battling mesothelioma. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation (MARF).

Janelle Bendel Three days later, on Tuesday, June 18, the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) will present “Wonder Woman” Janelle Bedel with our Alan Reinstein Award for her commitment to education, advocacy, and support to countless patients and families. At the awards presentation in Rushville, Indiana, Janelle’s friends and family will join ADAO in recognizing Janelle’s remarkable efforts to inform others about the dangers of asbestos and advocate for a global ban.

Both events provide an opportunity to deepen relationships and build new ones, as well as to promote mesothelioma awareness. Community action is essential to moving toward our vision of a world free of asbestos-related disease. Together, we raise global awareness about mesothelioma and asbestos-related diseases and thus bring hope that the deadly legacy of asbestos will come to an end. The power of our community is truly extraordinary.

With strength and courage, we will continue to use our collective voices to promote public health, support the community of individuals whose lives have been devastated by asbestos, and advocate for a global asbestos ban.

Together, change is possible.
