Knowledge is Stronger than Asbestos

January 2011 eNewsletter

2010 was a year of milestones and accomplishments of which we are very proud. We are now 6,000 strong and our community is growing.

Looking back on the last year, here are some highlights from our expanded education, advocacy, and community initiatives around the world:

  • ADAO took its voice to the front lines to help influence policy and regulatory changes in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and Asia to fuel the ban on asbestos and promote ongoing research.
  • We strengthened our network of victims, physicians, researchers, public health practitioners, and labor union members even further by utilizing powerful online resources and social media tools including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  • And, we would like you to be the first to know about our recently launched Asbestos Victims’ Community Resource (AVCR)page, creating a “Light a Candle” community of resources. This extensive public listing of Asbestos Victims’ Organizations’ Facebook pages, blogs, eNewsletters, websites, and upcoming events is open to all for linking.

As 2010 comes to a close, we realize that our accomplishments would not have been possible without our global family, volunteers, and – most importantly – you. As a member of our family, your voice matters.

Looking forward to our 7th Annual International Asbestos Awareness Conference (AAC), we are reminded of the difference each of us can make. This year is going to be our best! Highlights of the 2011 AAC event include:

  • ADAO is sponsoring doctors and patients from around the world who would not otherwise be able to join us.
  • All presentations and patient and family stories will be videotaped for those who cannot attend – a ‘legacy’ conference for all time.
  • The “Safety Begins at Home” program will be launched at the conference  using our educational “house graphic”.
  • And more…

For more information, see our full January newsletter. Visit ADAO’s “Year in Review” and “Accomplishment Summary” to learn more about what we have achieved together. We hope that you will consider supporting ADAO as we continue to battle asbestos and asbestos-related disease in 2011. Together, we will see a future without asbestos.

On behalf of everyone at ADAO, I wish you and yours a 2011 full of joy.

In unity,

Linda Reinstein,  ADAO President/CEO and Co-Founder
