Get ready – it’s almost time for the 12th Annual Alton Miles for Meso VIRTUAL 5K Race & 3K Fun Run/Walk! This year, due to COVID-19, the race will be held virtually. Check here to learn more and register.
ADAO has built a signature program as part of the Miles for Meso race to honor and remember Mesothelioma Warriors. For the past five years, over 250 race participants have worn “Warrior tribute bibs,” each one bearing the name of a victim of asbestos-caused disease.
There are a few changes for the virtual race this year. In addition to your race bib, everyone who registers will be sent a blank hard copy bib in your race packet. You are encouraged to personalize it in support or in loving memory of a Warrior and wear it while you participate in the virtual race. Miles for Meso is also collecting names during the race registration process. ADAO and Simmons Hanly Conroy LLP (SHC) will create a collage tribute graphic to share during the race week.
These personalized bibs are one of the most powerful parts of the race each year, as they enable participants to dedicate their run to a Warrior. Each participant is encouraged to safely race in their own communities and raise awareness around town. We ask that you wear your loved ones name or photo when you run to honor them as you participate in Miles for Meso, and all submitted pictures will be put in a collage. If you would like your Warrior to be in the collage, the deadline to submit a name on the Google form is Friday, Sept. 11, 2020. “Miles for Meso” is a yearly highlight for the Mesothelioma Warrior community. It brings people together in a fun, healthy way, and this year will create ways to connect digitally for those who can’t make it to the race in person.
Since 2014, the Alton Miles for Meso race has raised a stunning $155,000 for ADAO. We are immensely grateful to everyone who has supported us so far; especially SHC who will be sponsoring this fabulous event for the 12th consecutive year.
All proceeds from the race will go directly to ADAO’s advocacy, community support programs, education efforts, and awareness campaigns. Your contributions are the life force behind our work and enable the largest asbestos victims’ advocacy group in the U.S. to continue pushing for change and public health protection.
