We invite you to join us for Mesothelioma Awareness Month this September. This month, we honor those lost, support those fighting, and prompt action to prevent asbestos exposure. This year, we are also celebrating our own milestone, the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization’s (ADAO) 20th anniversary.

Why Mesothelioma Awareness Matters

Mesothelioma is a rare and aggressive cancer caused by exposure to asbestos, a known and deadly carcinogen. Mesothelioma affects nearly 3,000 Americans each year. Despite what many believe, asbestos is still not banned in the United States. It remains a legal and lethal danger, hidden in our homes, schools, workplaces, and even consumer products. While 70 other countries have banned asbestos, the U.S. continues to allow its import and use.

During Mesothelioma Awareness Month, ADAO focuses on more than just remembrance—we act. Awareness is the first step, but we know only action leads to real change. We’re determined to advance the Alan Reinstein Ban Asbestos Now Act (ARBAN) to permanently ban asbestos, with no exceptions. Together, we can stop this preventable tragedy.

Honoring Lives and Building Community

ADAO is also gearing up for our 20th Annual International Asbestos Awareness and Prevention Conference, “Exploring the Intersection of Asbestos Prevention, Policy, and the Law,” on September 14, 2024. This event will bring together global experts and advocates for a gathering dedicated to education, policy, and community action.

Raising Awareness, Inspiring Action

This September, we encourage everyone to get involved in 3 impactful ways:

  1. Share Your Story: Whether you’ve been personally affected or know someone who has, sharing your story adds a powerful voice to the fight against asbestos. We know these stories make a difference with members of Congress and the general US population who don’t yet understand the dangers of asbestos exposure.
  2. Attend our annual conference in Washington, DC, on September 14th. Exploring the Intersection of Asbestos Prevention, Policy, and the Law.
  3. Donate to ADAO: Your contributions helps to fund advocacy, education, and prevention efforts. Together, we can make a difference.

While research into mesothelioma treatments and cures continues progressing, the only true cure is prevention. By eliminating asbestos exposure, we can stop mesothelioma and all asbestos-related diseases before they start.

Together, We’re Making Change Happen

Join us this September as we raise awareness, honor those affected, and take action to end asbestos use for good.
