The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) was thrilled to join Jeffrey Simon, host of Outside Counsel on April 5th, 2024. In the episode “Turning Pain into Purpose: Linda Reinstein’s Asbestos Advocacy,” ADAO president and co-founder Linda Reinstein spoke to Lynn about the history of asbestos’s commercial use in the U.S. and the dangers of asbestos exposure. There is no safe level of exposure, and even the smallest amount can cause deadly illnesses, including mesothelioma and cancer of the lung, larynx, and ovaries.
Since losing her husband Alan to mesothelioma in 2006, Linda has dedicated herself to creating a safer world, establishing ADAO as a leading voice for asbestos awareness, education, and legislative change. Through years of grassroots advocacy and public health initiatives, Linda and ADAO have successfully amplified the call for an asbestos ban, highlighting the continued risks of asbestos exposure and the need for stronger protections.
On the podcast, Linda shared insights into the legal and regulatory challenges that have complicated efforts to ban asbestos, both in the U.S. and worldwide. ADAO’s work, grounded in real-world stories and supported by public health research, has helped bring these issues to the forefront, connecting impacted communities and bridging gaps in understanding asbestos-related diseases. ADAO’s initiatives have engaged lawmakers, industry stakeholders, and the public, generating bipartisan support and driving critical policy shifts. The organization has also played a key role in securing a historic ruling that could shape the future of asbestos regulations, demonstrating the effectiveness of advocacy rooted in education and relentless determination.
Linda’s appearance on the podcast underscores ADAO’s mission to eliminate asbestos-related diseases and protect future generations. By working tirelessly to push for comprehensive asbestos regulations and offering vital resources to affected families, ADAO stands as a testament to what committed advocacy can accomplish. Linda’s story and ADAO’s achievements reflect a broader dedication to public health and justice, rallying others to join the movement toward an asbestos-free future.
ADAO was honored to be able to share our expertise with Jeffrey, who asked wonderful questions and gave us the time to really dig into an unexplored and often overlooked topic. Thank you to Jeffrey and the entire team of the Outside Counsel Podcast
The only way forward is banning asbestos. ADAO invites you to listen and share the episode on social media and send your ban asbestos letter to Congress — to ban asbestos once and for all.
