THE MAINICHI NEWSPAPERS: “High court revokes lower court decision on asbestos exposure”

Monday, August 29, 2011

The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization finds the Osaka High Court decision to to revoke a previous ruling regarding compensation for the plaintiffs injured from asbestos exposure utterly appalling and unconscionable.

The facts are indisputable, asbestos is a known human carcinogen and there is no safe level of exposure. It is reported, that in “May 2010, the district court held the government responsible for failing to implement measures against asbestos exposure and ordered it to pay a total of 435 million yen in compensation to 23 former workers, who had worked at the spinning plants in the area between 1939 and 2005.”

We urge and encourage the Supreme Court to hear the plea of justice from the workers, bereaved families of workers, and our global communities who recognize this ruling in civilly and morally and wrong.

Sincerely,
