Meet Penny Jo Major – ADAO’s Ban Asbestos Miles for Meso Team Captain
“My name is Penny Jo Major from Pekin, Illinois, and I’ve been assisting ADAO since the day I learned about it, nearly nine years ago. I am the fourth of six children, the proud daughter of Donald ‘MAC’ and Judy McKinley. My dad was a hardworking boilermaker, ironworker, and in his younger days, an underwater welder for the Air Force.
When my dad was diagnosed with mesothelioma at just 48, I had no idea what this disease even was. He passed away a year later, at only 49. Asbestos stole my dad’s life, and I’ve been
Through my advocacy, I met incredible people like Jill Cagle, whose husband, Rob, also battled mesothelioma. Their strength fueled my own. Over the past three years, I’ve recruited at least one new walker each year for the Alton Miles for Meso. This year, I’m proud to have four or five teammates walking with me. Together, we walk for awareness, for prevention, and for a cure.
Asbestos killed my dad.
That’s why I’ll never stop fighting until this disease is eliminated.
