It is with deep sorrow that we mourn the passing of Professor Jorge Cruz, Vice-President of the SOS Amianto Association.
A distinguished cardiothoracic surgeon, humanist, and teacher, Professor Cruz was a pioneer in the fight against asbestos-related diseases. Since 2014, he has been instrumental in establishing SOS Amianto, advancing research, prevention, and compassionate care for his patients. His leadership and vision guided the first screening for malignant pleural mesothelioma, emphasizing that true healing begins with prevention.
I had the honor of meeting Professor Cruz at the 2023 International Mesothelioma Interest Group (iMig) Conference in France. His wisdom, humility, and unwavering dedication left a lasting impression on all who worked alongside him.
On behalf of the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO), we extend our heartfelt condolences to Carmen Lima, SOS Amianto, and all who mourn his passing. His legacy will continue to inspire global advocacy and prevention efforts for years to come.
