Asbestos: Awareness, Prevention, and the Law

.

September 25–26, 2026 | Washington, D.C

The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) is proud to announce that registration is opening soon for our 21st Annual Asbestos Awareness & Prevention Conference, taking place September 25–26, 2026, in the Greater Washington, D.C. area.

For more than two decades, ADAO has brought together scientists, public health experts, policymakers, advocates, labor leaders, patients, families, and community members united by one goal: preventing asbestos exposure and eliminating asbestos-related diseases. It is not only an opportunity to share life-saving information, but to celebrate and learn from our successes.

This year’s conference theme, Asbestos: Awareness, Prevention, and the Law, reflects a pivotal moment in the fight for accountability and stronger public health protections. Asbestos remains a preventable public health crisis, and there is still no safe level of exposure. While progress continues through science, policy, and legal action, millions remain at risk from ongoing and legacy asbestos exposure in homes, schools, workplaces, and communities. ADAO and our partners have developed a multi-pronged strategy that includes legal, legislative, and advocacy approaches. We look forward to sharing our wins, examining our losses, and learning what others are doing worldwide to fight the man-made scourge of asbestos-caused illnesses.

The 2026 conference will focus on how education, advocacy, regulatory action, and the law can work together to move the United States closer to an asbestos-free future.

Conference Focus Areas

This year’s program will explore three interconnected pillars:

Awareness — The latest science on asbestos exposure, disease burden, and public health impact.

Prevention — Regulatory accountability, enforcement, and protective policy solutions.

The Law — Strategic use of legal authority to advance reform, justice, and lasting protections.

Through expert panels, academic discussions, policy conversations, and community engagement, attendees will gain resources, insight, and meaningful opportunities to connect with others committed to prevention and public health.
