Each year, the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) dedicates April 1-7 to increasing awareness of asbestos and preventing exposure by bringing together experts and victims from around the world to share, learn, and take action. Asbestos is a known carcinogen, and there is no safe level of exposure. While promising research continues, prevention remains the only cure.

Day Three of Global Asbestos Awareness Week: Art, Advocacy, and Action

Today marks a pivotal moment in our Global Asbestos Awareness Week (GAAW)—Day Three. Embracing the theme “Asbestos: Art, Advocacy, and Action,” we delve into the compelling story of Jordan Zevon, who pays tribute to his father, Warren Zevon. Warren’s extraordinary legacy was tragically curtailed by mesothelioma, a lethal condition directly linked to asbestos exposure.

The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) remains committed to its mission of elevating the stories of those affected by asbestos and converting personal loss and expert knowledge into engaging, meaningful narratives. We believe that sharing your story is the strongest and best way to reach the hearts and minds of those who have the power to make legal change. As ADAO’s National Spokesperson, Jordan exemplifies this mission through his unwavering commitment. His fusion of artistic creativity and advocacy has not only broadened awareness of asbestos’s dangers but has also driven legislative and societal changes. Jordan’s moving reflection on his family’s battle with asbestos-related illness provides a heartfelt insight into the profound grief and persistent pain that accompanies this disease.

We are profoundly thankful to Jordan for his tireless advocacy and substantial contributions to our cause as ADAO’s National Spokesperson. His dedication serves as a beacon of hope and mobilization in our campaign against asbestos.

Dr. Arthur Frank, MD, PhD, a member of the ADAO Science Advisory Board, emphasizes the critical nature of our mission: “There is no safe level of exposure to asbestos, a known carcinogen. The danger increases when microscopic fibers become airborne, presenting invisible, yet deadly hazards.”
