As Mesothelioma Awareness Month comes to a close, ADAO is excited to continue the conversation with a special series for October’s Health Literacy Month. Starting Wednesday, October 9th, ADAO will launch a four-part blog series on asbestos-related diseases and prevention. This series will provide clear, shareable information, making it easy for everyone to understand the risks and how to avoid the dangers of asbestos.
The “Irrefutable Facts” about preventing asbestos exposure are simple but critical. Until researchers discover a cure, the only way to stop asbestos-caused diseases is to avoid asbestos exposure altogether. While promising research continues, prevention remains the only cure. Despite this, asbestos is shockingly still legal and lethal in the USA. Every 13 minutes, someone in America dies from preventable asbestos-related diseases, and though these deaths are entirely preventable, imports continue.
Prevention is essential because:
- There is no safe level of asbestos exposure, meaning even a small amount can result in fatal diseases.
- Asbestos-caused diseases can take decades to develop, so preventing exposure today protects future generations from suffering.
ADAO is committed to raising awareness, improving health literacy, and advocating for better prevention and treatment options.
Last year, on Mesothelioma Awareness Day, Rep. Don Bacon made history by becoming the first Republican co-sponsor of ARBAN, officially making the bill bipartisan. We are grateful for his leadership and the continued support of our co-sponsors. During Health Literacy Month, we aim to further educate the public on the urgency of passing this critical legislation.
The ADAO Asbestos Awareness and Prevention Series includes:
- October 9th — Part One: Prevent Asbestos Exposure
- October 16th — Part Two: Recognize High-Risk Occupations
- October 23rd — Part Three: Understand the Warning Symptoms of Asbestos-Related Diseases
- October 30th — Part Four: Finding a Center of Excellence for Treatment
As we always say at ADAO, “Hear Asbestos. Think Prevention.” Thank you for sharing this life-saving information throughout Health Literacy Month!
