This Year’s Focus
- Building on the strength and collaboration of our partners, the 2025 GAAW will emphasize:
- Banning the mining, manufacturing, and use of all six asbestos fibers globally
- Preventing asbestos exposure
- Increasing compliance and enforcement of existing laws and regulations
- Strengthening international partnerships to protect public health
Why It Matters
- Asbestos is a known carcinogen responsible for over 40,000 deaths annually in the U.S. and more than 200,000 worldwide.
- Despite its dangers, asbestos remains present in homes, schools, workplaces, and consumer products.
- Prevention is the only cure.
Highlights for 2025
- Daily Resources featuring expert blogs, videos, and compelling victim stories in seven languages (French, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Turkish, and Ukrainian).
- Global Advocacy: Driving efforts to ban asbestos, prevent exposure, and foster international collaboration.
- Candlelight Vigil: On April 7, we’ll close the week by honoring asbestos warriors and spreading hope.
