This September, we invite you to join us for Mesothelioma Awareness Month. Together, we honor those who have lost their lives, support those who are fighting, and take action to prevent asbestos exposure.
Why Mesothelioma Awareness Matters
Mesothelioma is a rare, aggressive cancer caused by exposure to asbestos, a known and deadly carcinogen. Nearly 3,000 Americans are diagnosed every year. While many assume asbestos is banned in the United States, this is not the case. Asbestos is legal and lethal and is still being imported and used, hidden in homes, schools, workplaces, and even consumer products.
More than 70 countries have banned asbestos, while the United States lags behind. This ongoing failure puts lives at risk every day.
Awareness is the first step, but action drives change. That’s why ADAO continues to champion the Alan Reinstein Ban Asbestos Now Act (ARBAN): legislation to completely and permanently ban asbestos without loopholes or exemptions. This is the most effective path to ending this preventable tragedy.
Honoring Lives and Building Community
ADAO’s commitment extends beyond awareness campaigns. Our work is rooted in uniting experts, survivors, families, and advocates. This September, we will gather for our 20th Annual International Asbestos Awareness and Prevention Conference, “Building on Dr. Selikoff’s Legacy in Asbestos Science, Prevention & Justice”. This event convenes global leaders to share science, strengthen policy, and inspire coordinated action.
Three Ways to Make an Impact This September
- Share Your Story
If you or someone you know has been impacted by asbestos, your story matters. Personal experiences resonate deeply with lawmakers, the media, and the public. They help build the case for urgent change. - Attend Our Conference
Join us on September 12 & 13 in New York City for a powerful day of presentations, panels, and community engagement. Together, we will explore strategies to eliminate asbestos-related diseases and advance prevention. - Support ADAO
Donations directly fuel advocacy, public education, and prevention programs. Every contribution helps us fight for the day when no one else hears the words “you have mesothelioma.”
Prevention is the Cure
While research into treatments continues, prevention remains the only true cure. Eliminating asbestos exposure stops mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases before they start.
This September, we remember the lives lost, we stand with those fighting, and we push harder than ever for a future free from asbestos.
