Asbestos is a known carcinogen with no safe level of exposure and claims over 200,000 lives worldwide every year. The theme for Global Asbestos Awareness Week 2025, “Asbestos: One Word. One Week. One World,” focuses on action, equity, and hope. Campaign materials and videos are available in six languages—Arabic, French, Hindi, Russian, Spanish, and Ukrainian. This multilingual effort gives more communities the knowledge they need to prevent asbestos exposure and protect public health.
“For over two decades, Global Asbestos Awareness Week has helped us to amplify voices, break barriers, and empower communities around the world with the information and resources they need to prevent exposure and protect public health,” said Reinstein.
ADAO is proud to collaborate with its international Organizing Partners for Prevention, the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS), that share our commitment to advancing prevention and policy change.
“Asbestos remains a major issue around the world and is the biggest cause of occupational cancer. That is why we are supporting Global Asbestos Awareness Week once more. We want to see more action from governments, public policymakers, businesses, and other stakeholders to prevent exposure, manage asbestos risks, and, ultimately, save lives,” noted Ruth Wilkinson, Head of Policy and Public Affairs at the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health.
“The British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS) is proud to support the 21st Annual Global Asbestos Awareness Week as an international partner organisation. As the home of the Faculty of Asbestos Assessment and Management (FAAM), BOHS remains committed to raising awareness about the dangers of asbestos exposure and promoting best practices for its management. Global Asbestos Awareness Week is a vital platform to collaborate with international partners, share knowledge, and advance our collective goal of eliminating the risks associated with asbestos.” added the British Occupational Hygiene Society.
Global Asbestos Awareness Week is also supported by: The International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), the International Commission of Occupational Health (ICOH), Collegium Ramazzini, the American Public Health Association (APHA), Hazards Magazine, and the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN).
