We have some thrilling news to share that highlights the incredible partnership between the Environmental Information Association (EIA) and the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO)! On November 9th, these two dedicated organizations will unite at the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) Xfinity Series Championship in Phoenix, AZ, marking a significant moment for both groups and raising awareness for crucial environmental issues.

This collaboration began at the EIA 2024 National Conference & Exhibition in San Diego, where generous EIA members teamed up for a special auction. SciAps, an EIA sponsor and member, donated the NASCAR sponsorship to EIA’s auction for the EIA Foundation. A team of four EIA members came together to bid on the NASCAR sponsorship and pledged to provide the sponsorship space to ADAO to help promote their mission of advocacy and awareness for asbestos victims and their families.  ADAO’s logo will be proudly featured on Ryan Sieg’s car #39 during the championship race. This is not just a thrilling moment for motorsport fans but also an important opportunity to spread awareness about asbestos-related diseases and the importance of environmental health.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to the members who made this possible: Brent Kynoch of EIA, Kevin Hutton of EAST Centers of NY, Craig Zinserling of CRAL Contracting, and Marc Rutstein of Environmental Consulting and Management Services, Inc. (ECMSNY). Their commitment to advocacy and awareness is commendable, and we are so grateful for their support.

Special recognition must also go to Andre Zwanenburg of The Asbestos Institute, whose coordination efforts have been instrumental in making this collaboration a reality. The teamwork demonstrated by these organizations showcases the power of collective action in promoting environmental safety and health.

A personal note from Marc Rutstein:

Having started in the asbestos and environmental industry in the mid-1980’s as a young professional, I didn’t understand anything about asbestos, we were simply collecting samples of building materials in the infancy of what would become the “Asbestos Industry” I was young and inexperienced and one day while reading the asbestos trade magazine, I saw a license plate cover that read “Asbestos-White Gold”, seemed cool and I ordered it and installed on my car. One day, a woman in a parking lot saw the plate cover and began to berate me for having the plate frame, she told me how she had family members that passed from asbestos disease.

I was young, but certainly old enough to understand the pain and sadness in her loss, I immediately removed the cover and saw the profession through the eyes of people who have died from asbestos exposure which is what ADAO is about and we are all proud to stand by this organization in our efforts to be involved in such an important profession, educating, inspecting, testing and overseeing the safe removal of environmental toxins including asbestos and many others.

The exposure that ADAO will receive through the sponsorship of Car #39 is invaluable. As the race draws near, we encourage everyone to tune in to your local channel or catch the race on CW, MRN, or Sirius XM and cheer for Car #39, knowing that each lap helps elevate awareness about the dangers of asbestos and the importance of disease prevention. It’s a fantastic way to engage the public and encourage conversations around these critical issues that truly do impact people’s lives, including their families, loved ones, and friends, needless suffering and medical diseases that can be prevented, and through ADAO’s efforts, we can make an impact.

Mark your calendars for November 9th, and let’s celebrate this exciting event together! Join ADAO and EIA in spreading the word, and don’t forget to share your photos and experiences with us on social media. With every share and mention, we can amplify this important message and make an even greater impact by preventing asbestos exposure and disease.
