SHExpo attending CANVA The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) is honored to join the 2016 Annual Safety and Health Expo (SHExpo), taking place in London, England – the birthplace of the ban asbestos movement.

Despite banning asbestos in 1999, asbestos exposure continues in the UK.  The British Health and Safety Executive (HSE) reported:

  • Asbestos still kills around 5000 workers each year, this is  more than the number of people killed on the road.
  • Around 20 tradesmen die each week as a result of past exposure
  • However, asbestos is not just a problem of the past. It can be present today in any building built or refurbished before the year 2000.

The SHExpo also takes place during the Health and Safety Week (June 20-24), which highlights many occupational health issues including cancer caused from asbestos.  Although ADAO has been involved in Health and Safety Week digitally for the past three years, there is nothing better than connecting and collaborating in person.

We are thrilled to join many leaders in safety and health community, and we look forward to the chance to connect with international allies like The McOnie Agency while also forging new partnerships that further our common goal of ending asbestos-caused diseases.

Join the conversation by using #SHExpo or by following @SHExpo on Twitter.

In unity,

Linda
